A Tool To Be A Special Present

When Christmas time rolls around I find myself getting excited. This is the one time of the year I will actually receive tools as a gift. One of the most common gifts to give a man is a cordless drill. But buying the right drill can be a challenge even for the most savvy home repair enthusiasts.

To make the task easier for you let me explain the difference between two of the most recognizable types of drills. It will mean a lot to the person you’re giving it to if you choose the right one.

Most supply stores carry the regular cordless drills that are usually handy enough to be used for home repairs. These require drill bits attachable to the end of the drill. When pressed against a surface the drill bit rotates at high speeds creating holes for screws. These types of drills are used for soft materials, such as, wood.

Another more versatile tool is the hammer drill. It works like the regular kind but has an added feature. Aside from rotating, it hammers the drill bit into the surface. This makes it ideal for tough materials like concrete and steel. The hammer drill uses a more durable drill bit compared to the ones used for soft materials which will not be able to withstand the hammering.

And that’s the basic difference between the two most versatile cordless drills. Naturally, the hammer drills are more expensive than the regular ones. Be sure to keep your receipt when buying one so you can exchange it, if necessary.

Another hurdle is in choosing which brand to get. It is advisable to select the well known brands like DeWalt and Milwaukee to be safe. And there you have it, you are now equipped with the necessary basic information for that special gift purchase.
